Flor@lias: interaction through living natural metaphors
Poetry
The aim of my project is to improve the human-machine interaction in order to make it more simple, natural and comfortable, and so allow more people to feel comfortable in the use of information and communication technologies.
To do this I propose to "hide the technology 'in the eyes of those "elephants" disguising it as nature.
The Latin poet Titus Lucretius Caro in Liber I of "De rerum natura" uses a beautiful image to explain how it is possible to convey philosophical concepts through poetry:
"So now I too (since this my doctrine seems
In general somewhat woeful unto those
Who've had it not in hand, and since the crowd
Starts back from it in horror) have desired
To expound our doctrine unto thee in song
Soft-speaking and Pierian, and, as 'twere,
To touch it with sweet honey of the Muse"
My purpose is not to convey philosophical concepts, but with Flor@lias I propose to extract from its context one of the most used computer technology, the e-mail, and "touch it with sweet honey of the Muse". The use of a language that is less technical and more poetic might make this cold technology more appealing, fun and comfortable to use.
